I welcome you all to this temple of health & Education. Congratulation on deciding to join Krishna Ayurvedic Medical College, Bijnor. Ayurveda has the distinction of being the “oldest medical system known to man and the oldest and most comprehensive spiritual teachings in the world”. Ayurveda is based on the principle of maintaining a balance between the interrelated relationships within the body and mind. It helps the patient to understand the benefits of knowing their body and mind and to live in an intimate relationship with nature. Ayurvedic literature has remedies for age-related diseases like memory loss, osteoporosis, diabetic wounds, etc. for which no efficient medicine is available in modern therapy. Even though Ayurveda has a sound literature background, ironically its share in the global medicinal market is very less (0.5%). In order to promote Ayurveda in the international market, ayurvedic drugs should be available in a standardized form, which is the minimum requirement for introducing a product in the Western market. Ayurvedic formulations should be standardized on the basis of active principle or major compound(s) along with fingerprints. There as great scope for India to achieve global leadership of the traditional medicinal market through the export of quality products from Ayurvedic medicinal system.
Hinduism deals a lot with the spiritual world and how the body and soul connect with the universe. Health concepts of universal interconnectedness, the body constitue (prakriti) and life forces (doshas) are also the primary bases of Ayurvedic medicine. These three doshas are categorized by the one ‘Vata’ which controls bodies functions dealing with motion. Two ‘Pitta’, which controls the body’s metabolic function. Three ‘kapha’ which controls growth in the body.
Through these pathways those who practice Ayurveda try and achieve a homeopathic method of restoring of preventing disease.
Hindus believe that to reach salvation or moksha, one has to find the right balance in life and follow that path. Ayurvedic treatments follow a similar pattern where one must find that imbalance in ones life and treat that at its core and bring balance back to these doshas. Many of these methods include a wide range of therapies, mediation, dietary changes, yoga etc aside from the treatment, methods.
Ayurveda assists individuals to take control of their own health and increase self-reliance and re-establishes our connection to the environment. Ayurveda is not limited to medicine or therapy; instead it implies a holistic approach to life and living in harmony with nature. The basic principle of Ayurveda is to prevent illness by balancing body, mind, soul & environemt . Ayurveda explains the do’s & dont’s one has to follow, which helps the well being of each individual to lead a healthy, happy, comfortable and advantageous life mentally, physically and socially. Ayurveda also emphasizes the saying ‘Prevention is better then cure”
